my story

I have had a passion for writing from a very young age. My first published pieces focused on women in sports for publications including W.I.G. (Women in General) and Girljock. I honed my writing skills while earning my Bachelor’s degree at UC Santa Barbara as a Religious Studies major and got my professional writing career started in 1998 as an intern at VeloNews, a national publication covering bicycle racing. During my time there, I published several stories including a cover story about women in cycling. I returned to my women-in-sports roots in 2019 to create Strides Forward, a podcast of stories about women and running, which I produce and host.
In my writing career, from VeloNews, I went on to become an editor at Rosen Publishing in New York, the publications coordinator for the prestigious Hackett-Freedman Gallery in San Francisco, the managing editor of Tahoe Quarterly, a regional lifestyle magazine, and the Editor in Chief of regional lifestyle magazines Nevada Home and the Nob Hill Gazette.
In my capacity as magazine editor, I regularly contributed stories on numerous topics having to do with community, home, garden, or lifestyle.
I have written and edited marketing and website copy for several businesses including Slice, Alta8 Fashion Armwear, Circle Furniture, and Body Balance Fitness and Massage, among others.
A lot of my writing has focused on the fine art world; I’ve written for ArtNews, ArtWeek, and art, ltd. and online for Art in America, Visual News Source, and the Huffington Post, among other publications. I have also written essays about art for the Capital City Arts Initiative in Carson City, Nevada, and for Scott Richards Contemporary Art, a fine art gallery in San Francisco.
I also wrote four books for the teen market: Everything You Need to Know About the Riot Grrrl Movement, Marathon Cycling, Tour Guides: Life on Extreme Outdoor Adventures, and Stunt Performers: Life Before the Camera.
